Tips On How To Write A Great Blog Post

0
Having looked at the traits a successful blogger should possess,
it is time we got down to the real deal i.e. how to write a great blog
post. Ask around and you’ll learn that successful blogging has content
as its main pillar; cornerstone. In other words, Content is King. It is
what sets your blog apart. So, your entry into bloging must start with
the commitment to always pen, type great, informative and original blog
posts.

Forget the fallacy that most Kenyans don’t spend
time reading because they do. Kenyans, like any other audience, love
informative and relevant posts. I, for instance, have spent hours
reading a fictitious post by a Kenyan blogger. There are great pieces
done by Kenyans that have  managed to attract loyal readers. I’m not in
any way, saying that our blogosphere is splashed with duplicate content,
just that you don’t have to be one of the plagiarists. What keeps your
audience glued is the QUALITY of the content and its ORIGINALITY.

Resource: How To Write Unique Blog Posts

What is a blog post?

So, what’s a blog post? It is a
well-written, original and comprehensive summary of a topic, including
reliable references and links. And, article writing is among the most
effective ways of promoting products and services online. Which explains
why there is an influx of articles from different writers to online
article directories, blogs and personal websites.

Even as you read this article, other site-owners are
adding fresh contents to remain relevant and maintain an online
visibility. However, not all articles qualify as great blog posts and
receive the much-needed attention. There are factors that contribute to a
great blog post without which your posts will never ‘see the light of
the day’.

Ranking of articles is based on articles’
quality as opposed to their quantity. For instance, independent reviews
and search engines results will give a lower rating for spun articles
compared to unique contents. To get higher ratings as a Kenyan blogger,
you need to understand the characteristics of a great blog post and the
most effective ways of promoting the blog post once it is published.

Qualities of a Good Article

You
are here because you want to publish top notch articles, right? Well
let’s delve into how to write a great blog post by looking at the
components:
  • Original
    – Even though you know that content is king, there is still that urge
to spun or plagiarize contents. My advice is to always be original and
bring a unique angle to the topic. You may also want to write on topics
you understand, as this will allow originality and flow of ideas
    throughout the article.
  • Great Title
    – Take your time to come up with a a SEO Title especially if you are
writing on a trending topic. You are to carefully coin a relevant and
catchy title for the article(s) to draw traffic to it once it is
published. The use of Keywords in a title,  and ensuring that it is not
more than 70 characters are some of the Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
    tricks to employ.
  • Relevance
    – Another feature of a good article is the relevance to the title. It
is never enough to have captivating titles when the content is
    irrelevant.
  • Factual and Current
    – Unless it is fictitious or creative writing, the article should be
factual and up-to-date to provide commendable information. Since
readers’ recommendation is a very effective article promotion method,
writers should be as informative and current as possible.
  • Keyword – This
may be a word or a phrase that the internet users can type into their
search engines to access your article. Always ensure a keyword density
of 2%. For instance, use the keyword a maximum 4 times in a 400 word
article. That way you would have writen for humans and search engine
    bots.
I once wrote an article that was curated by StumbleUpon and has attracted thousands of readers ever since it was published.

How to promote an Article

As
you may know, writing contents but not letting people know about it is
an exercise in futility. So, once you have coined a great blog post, it
is time to promote it. Here are the several simple ways you could use to
promote your piece:
  • Share article via email or submit them as news feed on prominent websites.
  • Submit to Article Directories Such as EzineArticles, GoArticle among others
  • Make a small YouTube video and link it to the article’s Url
  • Bookmark it on social sites like Digg, Delicious, Diigo, Reddit and StumbleUpon and Tumblr
  • Share on unique social sites like Design Float, Web Blend  and Design Bump if your article is about Graphic Design.
  • Share on Triberr to get readers and a very targeted Audience
  • Create Missions at Empire Avenue to get other social media enthusiasts to share your content for free
  • Promote article on the major social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and Pinterest for  better results.

About Facebook, Google+  and Twitter

Using
Facebook, Twitter or Google+ to promote your article attracts more
viewers than other social networks due to the readily available traffic.
For instance, Facebook and Twitter have over five hundred million
active users, as Google remains among the most visited websites. Another
advantage is the ease of promoting an article on these sites.
To
promote a great blog post on Facebook, you need to identify a popular
but relevant fan-page. Most of the fan pages allow posts as long as one
likes the page. The post will then be seen on the timelines of all the
subscribers on that fan page, which might run into hundreds of
thousands. Still on Facebook, you can use the Facebook Buttons on your
blog to share the article’s link with friends.

Google Plus platform works in a similar way as Facebook and as effective.

Unlike
Facebook, Twitter does not have fan-pages. However, the use of promoted
tweets, retweets or posting tweets with backlinks to a site or blog
will attract traffic and improve the article’s online visibility and PageRank. Twitter is more advantageous if you have a huge following.

Conclusion

Now
let’s revisit  how to write a great blog post; first it must be
Original ( research info online but rephrase it completely if you have
to), Grammatically Correct ( read and use the spell checker before
publishing), avoid unfounded personal opinion especially on topics you
are not an expert.

Always Be Relevant ( to the ‘keyword’ and the title) and maintain a keyword density
of 2%. Needless to say, you blog post must have an introduction, body
and conclusion. Well, I also suggest you have shorter paragraphs of 2-3
sentences each with each talking about a specific point. Please write
posts that are easy to read and understand. AVOID VOCABULARIES.

Now,
you don’t have to sound too academic. Instead, use a friendly tone that
will encourage readership; write as if you’re talking to a friend at a
restaurant. Did I mention a catchy title that reflects what the content
in the article is all about? Well that’s what you need to coin a great
blog post for your Kenyan audience. Yes, you only need to concentrate on
quality and you are sure your contents will get readers and even earn
you money.
